Mixed Scrap Small Arms Brass Casings

  • The caliber of the brass casings could be anywhere from .22 long rifle up to, and including, .50-cal BMG.
  • Quantity: 40 half Tri-Walls
  • Gross weight: 20,880 kg
  • Total approximate net weight of brass: 20,000 kg
  • The net weight does not include steel drums, pallets, Tri-Walls, bags or any other used packaging.

  • Important: Please note that the winning bidder must provide transportation in the form of a 53 foot enclosed trailer. Flatbeds and other configurations will not be loaded and will be turned away.

  3. Appointments to view and pick-up are mandatory, no exceptions.
  4. To be granted access to the facility, the Purchaser must comply with the security requirements put in place for COVID-19 at the location of the asset(s).
  5. The Purchaser must contact the custodian and make an appointment for a specific date and time so they can meet onsite. Any appointments cancellation must be done in the 24 hours prior to the appointment date.
  6. Inspection and pick-ups are done during the weekdays Monday to Friday. The exact time has to be discussed with the custodian.
  7. Purchaser must come equipped and prepared with proper equipment to pick up the lot from the building, example: dollies, carts, vehicle and/or trucks, as well as proper amount of staff/help for the move.

  1. Requirements for Small Arms Ammunition (SAA) Brass - Handling, Mutilation and Storage Guidelines
  2. Live rounds: The spent SAA brass cartridges have been screened by qualified personnel to ensure that the scrap material is free of any live rounds, but may still contain minute quantities of intermingled live rounds.
  3. Destruction criteria: The Purchaser must mutilate (e.g., crush, shred) and/or smelt the Small Arms Ammunition (SAA) brass cartridges, so that the cartridges can no longer be reloaded or re-used for their intended purpose.
  4. Destruction must be done in Canada: The Purchaser must mutilate and/or smelt the SAA brass cartridges at a location in Canada.
  5. Timeline for destruction: The Purchaser must mutilate and/or smelt the brass cartridges within 90 days of taking possession of the material.
  6. Mutilation and/or smelting before transfer or resale to a third party: The Purchaser must mutilate and/or smelt the brass cartridges prior to any transfer or resale to a third party.
  7. Proof of destruction: The Purchaser must complete and provide to Canada and Custodian a Certificate of Destruction (DND 2586), confirming mutilation of the brass cartridges, within 90 days of taking possession of the material.
  8. Access to the Purchaser's premises in order to witness the destruction: Upon request, the Purchaser must give representatives of the Custodian access to the Purchaser's premises for the purpose of witnessing the crushing/smelting.
  9. Temporary storage of live SAA found: The Purchaser must lock up any live Small Arms Ammunition (SAA) rounds that are found, in his own temporary storage unit, until pick-up is conducted by Custodian.
  10. Contact for live SAA pick-up: Upon contract award, Custodian will provide local contact information for live SAA pick-up in case any casings that have not been expended are found.
  11. Information package: Purchaser will be provided with an Information Package, upon sale award, outlining the safe handling, removal, temporary storage and reporting procedures of any live SAA that may be found within the lot of spent SAA. It is recommended that all persons associated with the processing of the spent SAA brass review the provided Information Package prior to handling the spent SAA brass.

Payment and Removal
Payment:
The Purchaser agrees to make any payment requested (see available payment options) by the Minister within 5 business days from the date of such request and prior to removal of any of the property.
 
Removal:
The Purchaser, upon acceptance of this offer by the Minister and after payment in full has been received by the Minister, shall at their expense, pack, load and remove the property by the date indicated on the bill of sale or, if no date is shown, within 5 business days after the date the bill of sale is issued.

All sales are final. No purchased Goods may be returned and no requests for reimbursement in whole or in part will be accepted.

  1. The Purchaser understands that the assets purchased are identified on Canada's Export Control List (ECL) and are subject to the Export and Import Permits Act. The Purchaser agrees not to export these assets without first consulting with the Trade Controls Bureau of Global Affairs Canada (GAC).
  2. The Purchaser acknowledges that it shall be their responsibility to obtain any required permit prior to the export of the assets.
  3. The materials listed may contain items of an explosive or flammable nature. The Purchaser shall accept full responsibility for damage to property, personal injuries or loss of life that may result from handling or processing, and shall indemnify and save harmless Canada from and against all claims or demands in respect of such injuries or loss.
  4. The spent ammunition cartridges may contain trace amounts of lead (Pb), and as such, personal protective equipment shall be worn in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements and any handling of this material shall be conducted in a well ventilated area.

Buyers are advised to contact each asset custodian listed on the sale to determine what viewing and pick-up directions are in place as instructions may vary from location to location. The item(s) described herein are being sold offsite and not from a GCSurplus Sales Centre. For all offsite sales, Canada is responsible for making the sale items accessible for removal. They are under no obligation to provide assistance of any kind. It is the Purchaser's responsibility to ensure they have the proper labour and material handling equipment to facilitate the removal. Failure to comply with this condition of sale may lead to the Purchaser being turned away and the items and funds being forfeited.
